In this article, I’ll share the good, the bad, and the ugly side of the Daylight Savings Time (DST). I’ll also share DST’s effects on our health as well as the spiritual concept of time.

But first, what is DST? Daylight Savings Time is an adjusted time to achieve longer evening daylight in summer by setting the clocks an hour ahead of the standard time.

What is Daylight Savings time in simple terms?

In simple terms, Daylight Savings Time is the practice of turning the clock ahead as warmer weather approaches and back as it becomes colder again.

What is the purpose for Daylight Savings time?

The idea behind the clock shift is to maximize sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere, as days start to lengthen in the spring and then wane in the fall.

The logic is that by springing forward and falling back, people add an hour of sunlight to the end of the workday.

The good about Daylight Savings time

According to procon.org:

1. Daylight Saving Time’s (DST) longer daylight hours promote safety.

2. DST is good for the economy.

3. DST promotes active lifestyles.

The bad about Daylight Savings time

According to procon.org:

1. Daylight Saving Time (DST) is bad for your health.

2. DST drops productivity.

3. DST is expensive.

The ugly things about the Daylight Savings time

Here are what I believe are the ugly things (health-wise) about the Daylight Savings time:

Daylight Saving Time May Harm Our Health

DST has the potential to harm our health by changing how we sleep, work, and learn. DST can make it harder for us to get an accurate night’s sleep and may also lead to an increase in stress levels and heart disease.

Additionally, DST may lead to an increased risk of fires and other accidents during the day.

What Are Some of the Health Risks of Daylight Savings time?

  • The risks of getting not enough sleep far outweigh any benefits associated with daylight saving time.
  • People who don’t get enough sleep or who wake up after midnight are at a higher risk of developing heart disease.

  • Changes in circadian rhythm can affect blood pressure, heart rate, endocrine, fertility rates (in women), memory function, as well as causing certain cancers.
  • There is evidence that people who regularly adopt daylight saving time tend to have an increased risk of developing hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes mellitus type 2, arthritis, cancer, decreased sperm quality/number, and poor circulation.

How to Avoid the Health Risks of Daylight Savings time

The health risks posed by Daylight Saving Time are numerous and may include an increased risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other diseases.

In order to avoid these risks, it’s important that you get enough sleep. To make sure you get the right amount of sleep, you need to try to schedule your bedtime according to your natural circadian rhythm.

How Daylight Savings Time Hurts Our Brain

Daylight Savings time can have a significant impact on your brain. When Daylight Savings time moves an hour of daylight from before sunrise to after sunset, the hours of darkness are shorter, and the brain is forced to work harder during the day.

This can lead to a shortened sleep schedule, increased stress levels, and impaired cognitive function.

Daylight Savings Time can also lead to decreased productivity, as people may be more tired after just one night of sleep deprivation. In addition, Daylight Savings Time can increase anxiety and stress levels, which can have lasting effects on your mental and physical health.

How Daylight Savings Time Hurts Our Concentration

The loss of sleep can also lead to a decline in cognitive skills and the inability to focus on tasks at work or school.

In addition, Daylight Savings Time can lead to a decreased ability to think logically and problem-solve.

How Daylight Savings Time Hurts Our Mood

Stress and anxiety can be two common side effects of daylight savings time. After losing an hour of sleep, people may be more anxious and stressed than usual, which can lead to negative mood swings and increased aggression.

Additionally, during daylight savings time, people may become addicted to caffeine, leading to a reduced ability to make healthy choices without feeling overwhelmed by the choice.

How Daylight Savings Time Hurts Our Body

People who have to stay up later to save time in the morning may experience an increased body temperature and an increased chance of experiencing heatstroke or other illnesses during the day.

Also, people who sleep late during daylight savings time may also be more susceptible to disease.

In addition, Daylight Savings time can also affect our body in other ways. During the morning and early afternoon hours, when daylight is shortest, blood circulation is slowed, and this can lead to a feeling of tiredness or weakness.

Furthermore, sunlight exposure during Daylight Savings time can be harmful to your eyes because it’s less bright than usual.

Dealing with Daylight Saving Time can cause a number of problems for people who operate under its rules.

This means that people who sleep later or work earlier in the day have to suffer through longer hours of darkness.

When you adjust your clocks to Daylight Savings Time, you may experience decreased creativity, reduced focus, and other mental health issues.

To avoid any negative impacts from Daylight Savings Time, be sure to take some time to understand how it affects your body and mind.

The Stance of the US Government on Daylight Savings time

The Republicans-controlled U.S. Senate passed a bill in 2018 to make DST permanent. Senator Marco Rubio sponsored this bill. This means if it became law, no more “Spring Forward, Fall Back.” No more moving clocks in the U.S.A. You can read Senator Rubio’s Sunshine Protection Act here.

If the legislation passes the House and receives the president’s signature, a permanent Daylight Savings time in the US would take effect on November 5, 2023, that is, if the Democrats-controlled U.S. Congress also approves it.

What happens if Daylight Savings time is permanent?

Permanent Daylight Savings time would keep the sun up later in the day, but would also mean the sun rises later. In the winter months, that could mean some places in the U.S.A. won’t see sunlight until as late as 9 a.m.

Who benefits from Daylight Savings time?

Proponents of DST argue that longer evenings motivate people to get out of the house. The extra hour of daylight can be used for outdoor recreations like golf, soccer, baseball, running, etc.

That way, DST may counteract the sedentary lifestyle of modern living. The tourism industry profits from brighter evenings.

Benefits of using the Standard and the Natural order of things

In my humble opinion, there are many reasons why using and maintaining the natural and standard things that Almighty “God” (Yahweh) has created are good and beneficial for all of us.

First, by using the things that Yahweh has created, we are able to live in accordance with His will and plan for our lives.

Second, when we use the things that Yahweh has created, we are able to benefit from His goodness and love.

Third, by using the things that Yahweh has created, we are able to show our gratitude to Him for all He has done for us.

Conclusion

The Bible warns us against oppressing others, where some people in power will try to change the set times and the laws!

“…And he shall try to change the set times and the laws…” (Daniel 7:25)

Yes, changing the standard and natural order of things setup by Almighty Yahweh in heaven for their own selfish purposes and control of the people!

And yes, Daylight Savings Time has the potential to harm both our brain and body, so make sure you have enough sleep at night. This can help avoid the health risks associated with altered sleep cycles and circadian rhythm.

If you experience any health problems from the Daylight Savings time, be sure to consult a medical doctor. I have presented to you the good, the bad, and the ugly side of Daylight Savings time. I hope and pray this blog would be beneficial to my loyal readers and serve as an eye-opener in this subject.

I am certain there are those who are in favor of DST and those who are not. Truth is, yours and my opinion are not important but only that of Yahweh’s!

Almighty Yahweh in heaven speaking through the Bible makes it very clear:

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
