Social Engineering And The Risks And Dangers Of Using It On Social Media
Social engineering in wrong hands puts social media users at a disadvantage
Social engineering and the risks and dangers of using it on social media are the topic of my blog that I’d like to share with you today. I’m hoping after reading this, you’d learn something to think about to protect yourself from it.
What is social engineering? Social engineering describes tactics used by malicious hackers as a matter of privacy — the security aspect can be more emphasized — however hacking may also cause damage if users have an idea or information that could lead them to harm.
While we wish people had proper knowledge about what they share online, this gives good individuals no protection against any form of attack and the use of malicious activity such as email phishing and distributed denial of service (DDoS), so there might actually be a need for greater regulation with regard to sharing informations about yourself.
The use of social engineering can get us better to connect with each other, but giving someone access to your personal information and login to your account is scary, don’t you think? Why? Because if your personal and confidential information end up with bad actors over the internet, then you’re in trouble.
Social engineering is nothing new on the Web because it’s being used every day on many social media websites online for the sake of “better” connection and/or integration. The more this sort of software gets distributed out there, will be harder for anyone with good intentions to do anything that would prevent someone else from doing so.
Social engineers who are smart enough will find ways around these things, but they’ll also make people not to think about this, because most, if not all, want “easy and convenient” ways to do things.
In short, social engineering is about manipulating human behavior into doing what you want people not really to do. In other words, social engineering can be used for good or ill by some groups, but especially harmful against others because they fear that their status will somehow decrease based on such a negative interaction with an unwanted person.
Social engineering is a very sophisticated technique. It requires an understanding that information systems are not machines, but rather complex human behaviors. Information technology really helps us understand this so we tend to believe what our friends think instead when given some context about how other people communicate with each another.
The purpose of social engineering tactics is creating trust between people based only upon appearance, instead of thorough checks of individuals and companies.
The first thing that I want people to understand here is: for your every action, there will be a reaction. What you say and do will either end up good or bad for you. There is no run around or escaping about this fact. You’re not only responsible for everything that you say and do, but don’t forget you’re also accountable for them, too.
Ultimately, of course, you are in charge of what you do with your life because the Almighty in heaven (Yahweh) has given us all a free will, but not abuse it!
But first let me say that I was not at all against any form or method, but it needs to be described with a fair amount more caution. There are many possible reasons why an individual might want another to share their personal and login data about them through socializing online, yet most people have no problem leaving those secret intimate details out when they do so for “the right reason and for convenience.”
In closing, my advice is for the people to be careful how much information they post on their websites and on social media, and don’t flood them with your things the strangers didn’t need to have access to.
I hope this helps you understand about social engineering and the risks and dangers of using it on social media. Make your family and friends be aware.
This technology exists, but its impact on people can be hard for some. That’s why we need real evidence that would create trust so there will not become a false sense amongst many innocent online victims. Until next time. Take care.
