The risks to writers for using AI-created contents is a big deal that writers need to pay particular attention to asap, as it may negatively affect their online reputation and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) target sooner or later. In this article, I will share some important stuff, so keep on reading.
In this age of constantly evolving technology, it is no surprise that artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly gaining ground. AI has been rapidly developing with the purpose of creating contents that emulate humans.
As such, Google has taken the step to recognize AI-generated contents and categorize them as spam. This decision was announced by Google, who hopes to improve its anti-spam measures and ensure better user experience.
Google’s search advocate John Mueller says content automatically generated with AI writing tools is considered spam, according to the search engine’s webmaster guidelines.
Here are the excerpts from Mr. Mueller:
“Currently it’s all against the webmaster guidelines. So from our point of view, if we were to run across something like that, if the webspam team were to see it, they would see it as spam.”
“But for us, if we see that something is automatically generated, then the webspam team can definitely take action on that.”
“If Google’s webspam team happens to find it, they’re authorized to take action on it.”

Meanwhile, Danny Sullivan, Public Liaison for Search at Google, made it clear that it’s not against Google guidelines to use AI to create content, as long as the output is written for people and not just the search engines.
Mr. Sullivan tweeted this:
In my opinion, Google has categorized and officially defined AI-generated content as spam due to a number of reasons.
One of the main reasons is that AI-generated content often lacks the context and meaning that is present in human-generated content. This can make it difficult for Google’s algorithms to understand and properly rank the content.
Additionally, AI-generated content is often generated in bulk, which can lead to an overabundance of low-quality, duplicate content on the internet.
Another reason, in my opinion, why Google has categorized AI-generated content as spam is that it can be used for malicious purposes.
For example, hackers and scammers may use AI-generated content to create fake websites or social media profiles in order to trick people into giving away personal information.
Additionally, AI-generated content can also be used to create fake reviews or spam comments, which can mislead consumers and damage the reputation of legitimate businesses.
Google’s efforts to combat AI-generated spam are ongoing and involve a combination of automated systems and human review.
Google algorithms are designed to detect patterns that are characteristic of AI-generated content, such as a lack of context, and to penalize or remove such content from its search results.
Additionally, Google also rely on feedback and report from users to identify and remove spam generated by AI.
In conclusion, yes, I believe the risks to writers for using AI-created contents is real and present. Google has categorized and officially defined AI-generated content as spam due to its lack of context and meaning, as well as its potential to be used for malicious purposes.
Google’s efforts to combat AI-generated spam are ongoing and involve a combination of automated systems and human review. This is to ensure that users can find high-quality, relevant content when searching on Google, and to protect the integrity of the internet.
So the question is, will Google ever change its stance against the use of AI-generated content? Maybe or maybe not. We’ll just have to wait and see.
But for now, create contents written primarily for humans, not for the search engines!
